Beaches, Mira River and Santa Clara Dam

Many of the still natural beaches of the Alentejo coast are nearby. In summer time they are excellent for beach life. In springtime and autumn, and during the winter months, they are prime hiking areas along the ocean, mostly on top of blossoming cliffs. Zambujeira-do-Mar, Alterinhos, Carvalhal, Praia da Amália and Odeceixe are in the better-known beaches in our immediate vicinity, at some 10-15 minutes driving time by car. But they can also be reached by bicycle. Another 10 beaches are at 20-25 minutes driving distance. The beauty of the Alentejo coast is that each beach is characterically different from the other ones.

Location

The nature tourism SELÃO DA EIRA - Turismo Rural no Alentejo is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the gentle Monchique mountain range, not far from the well-known beaches of Zambujeira-do-Mar and Odeceixe.

The nearest rural town with all essential shopping facilities, including supermarket, filling station and pharmacy, is São Teotónio, at a distance of some 6 km.

The nearest village is Vale Juncal, which lies 4 km from São Teotónio just along the National Riad N-120. At the corner of its "landmark" Café/Restuarant BECHA, a small road branches off to SELÃO DA EIRA. From there, the distance to SALGADINHO and SÍTIO DAS ROLAS is 1600 meters, and another 1500 meters to SELÃO DA EIRA VELHA.

Rota Vicentina

The “Historical Route” of the international hiking route Rota Vicentina passes directly in front of SALGADINHO and SÍTIO DAS ROLAS and partly along the boundary of the Nature Paradise SELÃO DA EIRA VELHA, in the section between S. Teotónio and Odeceixe.

The "Fishermen's Trail" along the coast line can easily be joined, or left in Zambujeira-do-Mar, in Carvalhal or na Praia da Amália near Brejão, or in Odeceixe. Driving time is between 12 and 18 minutes.
